עֵבֶר

עֵבֶרI (b. h.) pr. n. m. Eber, a descendant of Shem, believed to have maintained schools (oracles) in connection with Shem. Gen. R. s. 63 (ref. to Gen. 25:22) למדרשו של שם וע׳ to the school of Shem and Eber. Ib. s. 37 נביא גדול היה ע׳וכ׳ E. was a great prophet, for he gave names alluding to coming events.
